Cocaine

Crack.

Class A

Street Names - Rock, Stone, Wash

Description
Crack is a smokable form of the stimulant cocaine that is 80-100% pure. It comes as crystals that vary in colour from pink to yellow to off-white. Freebase is the end product of another process to produce smokable cocaine and is a fine, white powder.

How it is used
Crack is either smoked in a pipe, or heated in tin foil and the fumes inhaled.

Effects
Crack affects the body more quickly than cocaine. The physical effects are similar to those of adrenaline, with increased breathing, blood pressure, heart rate and body temperature, whilst suppressing sleep and appetite. Users describe a sudden surge of energy and euphoria, with a comedown period that may include shaking, weakness, paranoia and depressions that can last for days.

Problems specifically associated with crack use include black phlegm, chronic cough and respiratory problems like bronchitis.

The Law
Crack (Cocaine) is a Class A drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act , with high penalties for its possession and supply.

It is an offence to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Risk Reduction
Practise safer sex and use a condom in addition to other contraception to reduce the risks of sexually transmitted infections such as Hepatitis, Chlamydia and HIV.
