Description
These are small brown, dried mushrooms that are white when picked. They are hallucinogenic due to psilocybin, a drug they contain. The most common form in the UK is Psilocybe Semilanceata or Liberty Cap mushrooms.
How they are used
The mushrooms are swallowed, usually first cooked or dried and prepared as a tea.
Effects
Magic mushrooms have a similar effect to LSD, with distortion of colours and sound. They may induce hallucinations with anxiety, fear and paranoia. Some users also experience stomach cramps and nausea.
The Law
Psilocybe, Psilocin, and Psilocybin Magic Mushrooms are a Class A drug under the Drug Act 2005, with high penalties for possession and supply. It is an offence to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
